TYPE: An open-pollinated chili pepper, turning from green to bright yellow upon maturity. Suitable for open field production.
MATURITY: Approximately 90 – 100 days to first pick in summer plantings. The period to first pick can vary depending on seasonal conditions.
PLANT CHARACTERISTICS: Yellow Habanero has a strong, vigorous plant with good leaf cover that protects the fruit from sun damage. Trellising to 2 wires is recommended to maximize yield and fruit quality.
FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS: The Yellow Habanero has an average fruit mass of 50 grams. The fruit shape is small, round to slightly elongated, with a vibrant yellow color at full maturity. The fruit has a smooth skin and high-quality texture, offering a strong, intense heat profile.
PLANT POPULATION: Open Field: The plant height will range from 60 – 90 cm. A tramline support system of 1 – 2 wires is recommended to support higher fruit loads. A plant population of 30,000 – 35,000 plants per hectare is ideal.
TUNNEL PRODUCTION: For improved plant growth, removal of the first flower is advised. Optimal plant density is 2 plants per square meter, with pruning to 2-3 stems per plant.
DISEASE RESISTANCE: HR: Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV strain 0), and other common chili diseases.
CLIMATE REQUIREMENTS: Yellow Habanero thrives in subtropical to tropical climates, requiring moderate heat and protection from frost for optimal growth and fruit quality.
