MATURITY: Approximately 90 – 100 days to first pick in summer plantings. Maturity time can vary depending on growing conditions and climate.
PLANT CHARACTERISTICS: Red Habanero features a vigorous plant with strong leaf coverage, helping to protect the fruit from sun damage. While not essential, trellising to 2 wires can help optimize yield and fruit quality.
FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS: Red Habanero fruits are small, averaging 50-60 grams. The fruit has a distinctive, lantern-shaped appearance and is highly aromatic. The skin is smooth with a glossy finish, and the intense red color indicates peak ripeness.
PLANT POPULATION: Open Field: Plant height typically ranges from 60-80 cm. To support high fruit loads and maximize marketable fruit, a tramline support system with 1-2 wires is recommended. Plant population should be around 25,000 – 35,000 plants per hectare.
TUNNEL PRODUCTION: Removal of the first flower is recommended to enhance plant growth, fruit yield, and quality. Optimal plant density is 2 plants per square meter, with pruning to 2-3 stems per plant.
DISEASE RESISTANCE: HR: Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV strain 0).
CLIMATE REQUIREMENTS: Red Habanero is best grown in warm climates with consistent heat. It thrives in subtropical and tropical regions and is frost-sensitive.
